Good morning Keystone Region members!

John Speraw
USA Volleyball recently announced the hiring of its new president and CEO, John Speraw (pictured at right). If the name sounds familiar it's because prior to now Speraw was the head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team since 2013. We look forward to working with Coach Speraw.

Here, at the regional level, we once again have a Board of Directors election coming up. This year, three positions are available: Commissioner and two advisory board positions. If you are interested in learning more about the positions, the qualifications required, and duties involved, please review Article VII in the KRVA By-Laws beginning on page 14. Those individuals interested in becoming candidates must apply by December 1, 2024. Elections will take place between April 15 and May 1, 2025. Email us at nominations@krva.org if interested in becoming a candidate.

Tryouts for girls 14 and under takes place this month! Parents, be sure to consult our Family Guide for answers to many of your questions. Coaches, be sure to complete those eligibility requirements (SafeSport, ImPact training, background screens) prior to stepping into the gym. We update our Coach Directory page twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays to let you know what requirements have been completed.

Registration is now open for the KRVA multi-day events. Links can be found below. Single-day event registration will open in mid-November.

On December 8th, we will be hosting a free girls scrimmage with certified referees at Spooky Nook. This is the perfect way to start the season with your girls teams! Each team will receive a team gift at check-in and we will have a t-shirt drawing every hour. There are three age divisions (13/14, 15/16, 17/18) with a max of 8 teams in each division. Hurry! They will fill up quickly. SIGN UP HERE

As always, tag us on Instagram or Facebook so that we can share all of the great things you are all doing with the rest of the region. Best of luck with girls tryouts this month and next! We look forward to a great season in 24-25.

A quick word of caution for parents and athletes: In the past there have been athletes who have tried out for the wrong age group, received and accepted an offer, and after discovering that they were in fact ineligible for that particular team, missed out on the opportunity to play for a correct age group team because the teams were since filled. Don't miss your chance to play! Consult the 2024-25 Season Age Definition Chart.

ATHLETES TURNING 18 & COACHES

Are you (or your junior athlete/coach) turning 18 (or older) during the upcoming club volleyball season? Then consider this your reminder that you must take your SafeSport training to be able to fully participate in the 2024-25 season.

Parents, this means if your son or daughter turns 18 BEFORE Sept. 1, 2025, then he or she MUST purchase the membership that requires SafeSport training to be eligible for the season.

"But my daughter's season ends before she turns 18?" That's a common reaction to this requirements, but we can explain:

1. The USA Volleyball season goes through Aug. 31, 2025.
2. There are summer camps and clinic that would require the training.
3. There are beach tournaments and beach clubs that require the 18s member + SafeSport to be a part of their club.

All of these reasons (among others) are why USA Volleyball and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee require SafeSport to be a part of the organization for the upcoming season. We encourage all coaches and players (who require SafeSport) to take their training before they get into the thick of their high school seasons and before school starts in September. This will also prevent coaches and directors from losing access to certain administrative abilities in Sports Engine if it is not done on time.

SafeSport is a YEARLY requirement. Every few years, you will be prompted to take the extended "core" training session. Other years, you will
only be required to take a refresher course to meet your requirements.

To find SafeSport training, log in to your Sports Engine account.
